The idea behind the Bishop Burton College Rugby Academy is that talented players can access first class coaching and sports development whilst taking advantage of the College’s expanding portfolio of Higher Education Courses.

In 2009 Hull Rugby Union joined forces with Bishop Burton College enabling them to offer Rugby Scholarships to candidates of outstanding sporting ability, who show evidence of achievement or potential at regional and/or national level. The overarching aim is to provide athletes with the best possible environment to achieve their academic and sporting goals.

A new range of Sports and Fitness foundation courses and degrees have been validated and potential scholars must be enrolled on any of the Higher Education Courses offered by the College.

Hull RUFC’s partnership with the College provides coaching and Sports development advice to the Academy Scholars. Scholars are also required to register and play for Hull as part of the Academy but may be loaned out to other local clubs in order to aid their development.

The clubs Chairman of Rugby works closely with the College’s Director of Rugby Alex Moreno (former Argentinian and Italian International) and the clubs coaching staff take regular training sessions  with the scholars to make sure they consistently meet the high standards set by the College and the Club.

All scholarships offered relate to academic fees and accommodation for the relevant academic year.
